The Tacoma is powered by either a 2.7L 4-cylinder that makes 159 horsepower or a 3.5L V6 that makes 278 horsepower.

The Tacoma is offered a wealth of customizable options, but it comes in six trims: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

The base SR version can be ordered with either the Access Cab or the 4-door 4X2 Double Cab. The Access Cab comes with a standard-length 6-foot bed, while the Double Cab is available with a 5-foot short bed. Standard equipment includes 16-inch wheels, power windows, and door locks, a backup camera, an AM/FM/SiriusXM Satellite audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and a deck rail system that helps secure loose objects in the bed.

The Double Cab models allow buyers to choose between a 5-foot or 6-foot bed. SR5s include keyless entry, a 4.2-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster, fog lamps, and a bit more chrome on the truck's grille.

The TRD Off-Road version adds both style and off-road utility to the Tacoma. Toyota is making some updates to the Tacoma lineup for the 2023 model year. The SR5 trim level is getting two new appearance packages: the Chrome package with 18-inch alloy wheels and the SX package with black over-fenders and black wheels. The V6 engine is now standard with keyless entry and a power-adjustable driver's seat on the SR5 trim, and every V6 model now comes with automatic dual-zone climate control. The Limited trim level is getting a power-adjustable driver's seat, the 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Smart Key, and a 360-degree camera on Limited Double Cab Tacoma. The TRD Pro off-road model is getting a new exclusive Solar Octane color, and the TRD Sport is now available in Electric Lime paint. The TRD Off-Road crew cab with four-wheel drive and the V6 engine is a popular choice, and it comes standard with an electronic locking rear differential. Recommended is the Technology package with options, which includes upgraded front lighting with LED elements as well as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.
